Afro-Brazilian work carries an additional challenge: reaching people beyond the Brazilian community without being reduced to a stereotype, while also helping Brazilians recognise the African roots of cultural expressions they may simply think of as Brazilian.\u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e\u003cspan\u003eMusic faces the same barrier. Extraordinary performers, DJs, groups and cultural collectives are working here, but finding them often depends on already knowing where to look.\u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e\u003cspan\u003eThis guide is designed to change that. That can create strong relationships, but it also means extraordinary work remains almost invisible to anyone outside the network.\u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e\u003cspan\u003eAfro-Brazilian artists and business owners may also face a narrower set of expectations. Australian audiences may first recognise carnival, samba costumes or capoeira while missing the breadth of the culture around them.
